New Changes in RRB ALP Syllabus and Exam Pattern 2026
There are the new changes in the latest ALP Syllabus and Exam Pattern as discussed below:

The RRB ALP Syllabus 2026 has been revised under CEN 01/2026. The major syllabus change is the removal of General Awareness from CBT 1. As per the latest ALP syllabus, CBT 1 will now include only Mathematics, Mental Ability, and General Science.

The RRB ALP Exam Pattern 2026 has also been updated for the final merit calculation. Earlier, the final merit list was prepared with 70% weightage for CBT 2 Part A and 30% weightage for CBAT. In CEN 01/2026, the weightage has changed to 50% for CBT 2 Part A and 50% for CBAT, making CBAT equally important in the final selection process.

RRB ALP Exam Pattern 2026
The RRB ALP Exam Pattern 2026 consists of three stages, which are CBT 1, CBT 2, and the Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT). The ALP paper pattern mentions that CBT 1 carries 75 marks while CBT 2 carries 175 marks. Both CBT 1 and Paper 2 of CBT 2, along with the CBAT (Psycho Test), are qualifying in nature. RRB ALP CBT 1 General Science Syllabus
The General Science section covers fundamental concepts from Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences. All questions are based on Class 10 level understanding and everyday applications
RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam Pattern
The candidates who qualify the first stage of the exam will be allowed to appear for the CBT 2 exam. As per the official RRB ALP exam pattern, the skills of the candidates in technical and general aptitude will be tested in the second stage of the exam, which comprises two parts, Part A and Part B, of the RRB ALP exam paper pattern.
- The RRB ALP CBT 2 exam pattern states that Part B is of a qualifying nature, whereas the marks obtained in Part A will decide the merit for the next level.
- Minimum qualifying marks:
- Part B – 35% for all categories.
- Part A – UR/EWS = 40%, OBC = 30%, SC = 30%, ST = 25%.
- There will be a negative marking of 1/3rd marks for each incorrect answer.
- The sectional timing will be applicable for the RRB ALP CBT 2 exam.

Qualification-Wise Trade Grouping for Part B of RRB ALP CBT-2 (Qualifying Test)
Candidates appearing for the RRB ALP CBT-2 exam must select an appropriate trade for Part B based on their engineering qualifications. Paper 2 of CBT 2 is qualifying in nature. The candidates must secure a minimum of 35% marks in the paper to qualify for the next stage, i.e., the CBAT. The trade should be the same as the discipline studied by the candidates during their course of engineering or diploma. RRB ALP CBT 2 Syllabus 2026
The RRB ALP CBT 2 Syllabus is divided into two parts. Part A comprises subjects like Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, and Basic Science and Engineering up to the 10th Standard Level. Part B is a trade-specific Paper comprising questions based on the candidates' chosen Trade/ ITI or diploma discipline.

RRB ALP CBAT (Psycho Test)
The Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) or Psycho Test is conducted only for the post of RRB Assistant Loco Pilot. Candidates must keep in mind the following points about RRB ALP CBAT exam pattern -
- Minimum Qualifying Marks for this stage are 42 marks in each of the test batteries, irrespective of the category.
- Candidates equal to 8 times the number of ALP vacancies for each category will be shortlisted for this stage, depending on their performance in CBT II.
- Candidates will have to qualify in each of the test batteries of Computer Based Aptitude Test.
- The medium of questions for the CBAT will be English and Hindi.
- There will be no negative marking in the RRB ALP CBAT.
- The final merit list for RRB ALP will be prepared only from amongst the candidates who qualify the CBAT stage.
- To prepare the merit list, the CBAT and CBT 2 (Part A) will get equal weightage (50:50). Earlier, 70% weightage was allotted to the marks obtained in Part A of the second stage of CBT, and 30% weightage was for the marks obtained in CBAT.
