CTET Age Limit 2026
According to the latest eligibility, applicants are required to match the prescribed CET age limit set by the Central Board of Secondary Education. Meeting the age requirement is a crucial part of the eligibility process, as only candidates within the specified age range are considered qualified to apply for the CTET exam and proceed with the selection process..

CTET Educational Qualifications Criteria for Paper 1 and Paper 2
According to the eligibility rules, the academic CET educational qualifications needed for Paper 1 and Paper 2 vary from each other. Paper 1 is for candidates intending to teach Classes 1 to 5, whereas Paper 2 targets Classes 6 to 8. CTET Paper 1 Eligibility
According to the eligibility for CTET Paper 1, candidates with the following CET educational qualifications can appear for Paper 1 of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test. Candidates must have cleared or are still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (with a minimum of 50% marks) from a recognised University/Institution.

Applicants must have cleared or are still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (with a minimum of 45% marks) in accordance with the NCTE, Regulations, 2002.

Aspirants must have cleared or are still pursuing the final year of a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) from a recognised University/Institution (with at least 50% marks).

Candidates must have cleared or are still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Special Education(with at least 50% marks) from a recognised University/Institution.
OR

CTET Paper 2 Eligibility
The CTET Educational Qualifications for Paper 2 requires that candidates must have passed graduation (with minimum 50% marks) and passed or appeared in the first year of Bachelor's in Education (B.Ed) from a recognised University/Institution. Candidates with one of the following qualifications can also apply:
Candidates must have cleared the Graduation (with a minimum of 45% marks) and passed or appeared in 1 year of a bachelor's Degree in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE Regulations in Education (B.Ed).
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and Candidates must have cleared the Graduation of a 4-year Bachelor's in Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed).
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks, and Candidates must have cleared the Graduation of a 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.
OR
Graduation with at least 50% marks and Candidates must have cleared or appeared in a 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).
OR
Candidates must have cleared the Graduation in B.Ed. Programs recognized by the NCTE are eligible to appear in TET/CTET.

Is B.Ed Compulsory For the CTET Exam?
No a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree is not compulsory for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). However to be eligible to appear for the CTET exam the candidate must have a minimum educational qualification of a Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) degree with at least 50% marks and passed or appear in the final year of a 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education or 4 year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) or a 2 year Diploma in Education (Special Education). So while a B.Ed degree is not mandatory candidates must have the qualifications given above to appear for the exam.
Can B.Tech Students Apply for CTET?
Yes B.Tech students can apply for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test if they meet the eligibility criteria set by the Central Board of Secondary Education. The CTET eligibility 2026 criteria for appearing are as given as under :
For Primary Stage (Classes I to V)
The candidate should have passed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks & should have passed or appeared in the final year of a 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education or Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) or 4 year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed) or 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
For Elementary Stage (Classes VI to VIII):
The candidate should have a graduation degree and should have passed or appeared in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) or 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed) or 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)*. Therefore, if a B.Tech student has also completed or is pursuing a teacher education course recognised by NCTE or RCI, they can appear for the CTET exam.
*Note: A candidate who is pursuing any of the teacher education courses (recognised by the NCTE or the RCI, as the case may be) specified above can also appear in the CTET.
CTET Eligibility 2026: Reservation Criteria
For the General category, Candidates who score 60% marks in the examination will be considered qualified. There will be a 5% relaxation of the qualifying marks in the minimum Educational Qualification for you if you belong to SC/ST/OBC/Person with Disabilities category.

CTET Eligibility Criteria 2026: Number of Attempts

- NCTE must recognise the candidate's degree or diploma.
- Only programs accredited by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) will be accepted for candidates holding a Diploma or Degree in Special Education.
- Candidates with a D.Ed (Special Education) must complete a 6-month NCTE-approved Special Programme in Elementary Education.
- The above-mentioned minimal CTET educational credentials apply to instructors of Languages, Social Studies/Social Science, Mathematics, Science, and so on.
- Physical Education instructors must adhere to the standards outlined in NCTE rules.
- In the case of Art Education, Home Science, Work Education, and Craft Education teachers, Norms established by state governments and other school administrations, for example, will apply.
